Course Overview

This Level 2 Technical Certificate in Bricklaying is aimed at you if you are looking to work in the construction industry specifically as a craftsperson in bricklaying. A bricklayer has the skills and knowledge to build or repair walls in accordance with construction plans. They may also build or refurbish arches or other structures, therefore they play an important part of any construction team.

You will gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge that are important when you are working as a bricklayer or progressing to further learning and training in this area.

This qualification is suitable if you are 16 years old, or over. You don't need any previous experience to start this qualification.
Following successful completion of this qualification you will be qualified to work in the construction industry as a bricklayer.

Combination of Grade 3 and 4 in Maths and/or English, with at least 2 other subjects at grade 3.
No additional costs, however students will be advised to purchase steel toe cap boots.
Students to gain the knowledge and skills required to be employment ready in the construction industry. In contrast to an apprenticeship, this course will be a full time study programme at college where a vast range of skills within bricklaying will be covered at level 2.

1. Synoptic Assignment this is externally set, internally marked and externally moderated. The assignment requires candidates to identify and use effectively in an integrated way an appropriate selection of skills, techniques, concepts, theories, and knowledge from across the content area.

2. Externally Marked Exam - The exam is externally set and externally marked and can be taken either online through City & Guilds' computer-based testing platform, or as a paper based test. The exam draws from across the mandatory content of the qualification, using:

  • multiple choice questions to confirm breadth of knowledge and understanding
  • multiple choice applied knowledge and understanding questions, giving candidates the opportunity to demonstrate higher level, integrated understanding through application, analysis and evaluation.
  • Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma (T-Level) in Onsite Construction, specialising in Bricklaying.
  • Level 2 or 3 apprenticeship in Bricklaying.
