Change of Chair at Bath College

Professor Andy Salmon is handing over the role of Chair of the Bath College Board after a three-year term of office. He is succeeded by Sandra Prail MBE.


Sandra, who is significantly experienced in Further Education sector, will work with existing long standing Governors Dr Victoria Downing Burn and Marie Claire Haines who are Co Vice Chairs at the College.


The Governing Body has recently voted to extend its number - introducing five new members bringing additional focus on transformation, finance and skills.


Andy will remain a huge advocate of the College and will continue to be involved in various strategic projects in his role as Pro Vice Chancellor of Bath Spa University.


Commenting on his tenure, Andy said "It's been a great privilege to be Chair of Corporation at Bath College for three years. I've learnt so much from colleagues, and thoroughly enjoyed being part of this essential community.


I will really miss being part of the Further Education skills agenda for the region, and wish everyone at the College, students and staff all the very best for their future. I believe the College now has great foundations for this future."

Bath College is recruiting for its substantive Principal and CEO in line with Board plans to lead a transformation and modernisation of its quality and funding frameworks. Martin Sim CBE is leading the initial transformation in his role as Interim Principle and CEO until spring 2025; and the new appointment will be charged with continuing this significant and exciting work.

To ensure its governance arrangements are as equally outstanding; the College commissioned an external review of governance which reported in 2024, and has set in train a range of changes to the composition of the Governing Body and the governance frameworks seeking to ensure best practice.

Sandra Prail MBE, MBA, LLB, National Leader of Governance for the Further Education Commissioner. will Chair the Corporation for an interim period. Sandra is also Chair of South Hampshire College Group. Sandra has been working with the Board for some months in an advisory capacity and her appointment brings stability and an opportunity to further benefit from best practice.
