Course Overview

T Levels are new courses which will follow GCSEs and will be equivalent to three A Levels. These two-year courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares learners for work. T Levels combine classroom theory, practical learning and a minimum 315 hours of industry placement with an employer to make sure students have real experience of the workplace.

This qualification is for you if you are a 16-19-year-old learner, who wishes to work within the Media Industry with a focus on content creation and production. The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the sector, and you will cover topics such as: The Creative Economy, Ethics, Cultural Context and Vocabulary.

Entry Requirements
To study on this course you will need to have 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including Maths and English Language. Internal candidates who successfully complete a Level 2 Foundation Year at a Distinction will be considered for this course.
What topics are covered?
How will I be taught and assessed?
All students will achieve two components of the Technical Qualification 'Core' and 'Occupational Specialism'. The 'Core' element will include key concepts and theories and will be graded A* - E. Assessments will include an external exam and an Employer Set Project. The 'Occupational Specialism' will include a synoptic practical exam based upon occupational maps. In addition to this all students will complete a minimum of 315 hours industry placement.

This Technical Qualification supports progression to:

  • UCAS points in line with 3 A levels (168 points)
  • Entry-level job opportunities within Media, Broadcast and Production
  • Level 3 Apprenticeship to develop and gain certification of their occupational competence as a Content Creator or Production Assistant
  • Higher level Apprenticeships such as the Level 4 Post Production Technical Operator or Media Production Co-Ordinator, depending on their skills or experience
  • Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes
  • Degree programmes such as; Media Studies, Film and Media Studies, Media Production
Are there any additional costs?
IT equipment required for the course is provided by the College. However, it would be an advantage if learners have an appropriate device (PC/Mac, Laptop, Tablet) at home for independent study.

What is the aim of the course?

This Technical Qualification is for T Level students who are undertaking the T Level in Media, Broadcast and Production. It is intended for students who want to progress to a career in the Media sector.

The purpose of the T Level Technical Qualification in Media, Broadcast and Production is to ensure students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into highly skilled employment, an Apprenticeship or higher-level study, including university, within the specialist area of Media, Broadcast and Production.

At the end of the Technical Qualification, students are expected to demonstrate threshold competence, meaning that they have gained the core knowledge and skills related to Media, Broadcast and Production and are well placed to develop full occupational competence with additional development and support once in employment in the Media, Broadcast and Production sector.
