Course Overview

The Supported Internship Programme at Bath College is designed to provide learners aged 18-25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), primarily those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, with a structured pathway towards employment. The programme integrates work experience placements (rotations) with tailored employability sessions and dedicated support from job coaches.
 
Programme Components:
 
Work Experience Placements (Monday to Thursday):
- Learners will engage in real-world work experience placements tailored to their interests, abilities, and career goals. They will have the opportunity to gain experience in different organisations during the internship (rotations). 
- Placements will be carefully selected and coordinated by the programme team in collaboration with local employers who are committed to inclusive hiring practices.
- Learners will have the opportunity to develop practical skills, gain workplace experience, and build confidence in a supportive environment.


Employability Sessions (Friday):
- Each Friday, learners will participate in instructor-led employability sessions aimed at developing essential job skills.
- Sessions will cover a range of topics including CV writing, interview techniques, workplace communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- The sessions will be interactive, engaging, and tailored to the specific needs and aspirations of the learners.


Dedicated Job Coaches:
- Experienced job coaches will provide intensive support to both employers and learners throughout the duration of the work placements.
- Job coaches will work closely with employers to ensure that reasonable adjustments are made to accommodate the needs of the learners.
- They will also provide individualised support to learners, including coaching, mentoring, and advocacy in the workplace.
