Course Overview
The Sewing Skills for Beginners course is a practical course taught in a relaxed environment which is aimed towards building individuals confidence and independence in sewing. Part 1- You will learn basic sewing machine skills and techniques which can be applied to both clothing and textile projects. Through demonstrations and individual one to one guidance learners will be shown a range of skills and be able to practice techniques required to develop individual projects and explore creative ideas. These will be applied to a 'final piece' to refine learners own technical ability.
What topics are covered?
Building confidence with working independently on a sewing machine, Machine stitch skills, seam finishes, fastenings (zips), understanding cutting techniques, basic pattern drafting for fashion clothing, waistbands and facings. This course does not cover hand stitching or embroidery.

You will need to provide your own choice of fabrics, zips, buttons and threads.
Fabric scissors, notepad, and pen. In later weeks, you will need fabrics and fastenings - your tutor will advise.
