Course Overview

Traineeships are designed to prepare and support young people into entering the world of work, an apprenticeship, or further training in a chosen area. As a Trainee, you will be provided with the opportunity to develop your practical, interpersonal, and employability skills, as well experiencing full immersion in the workplace. We offer our Traineeship programme at both our City Centre and our Somer Valley Campus.

What topics are covered?

Over the course of your Traineeship you will you will learn how to navigate your way around the work place. This includes developing your hard skills (e.g. job seeking, CV writing, interview techniques, workplace laws and regulations), and your soft skills (e.g. communication, problem-solving, organisation, independence, managing yourself). You will be given the opportunity to develop these skills on your work placement, where you will spend a minimum of 10 hours a week. Depending on your prior English and maths achievements, GCSE or Functional Skills English and maths lessons will also make up part of your Traineeship.

Traineeships are designed to prepare and support young people into entering the world of work, an apprenticeship, or further training in a chosen area. As a Trainee, you will be provided with the opportunity to develop your practical, interpersonal, and employability skills, as well experiencing full immersion in the workplace. We offer our Traineeship programme at both our City Centre and our Somer Valley Campus.
You must be eligible to work in England and have a strong motivation to work. You must also be able to demonstrate that you can work at Entry 3 in English and maths at a minimum. Ideally you will have found an employer who will take you on as a Trainee, if not, you will be expected to work with us to secure a placement You will also need to undertake a successful interview with the Traineeship course leader.
You will not receive a formal qualification for your traineeship. However, you will undertake GCSE/Functional Skills English and maths qualifications depending on your previous English and maths attainment.
Trainees will learn on the job, although classroom employability sessions will supplement this. Trainee achievement is tracked and assessed using RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement). Trainees are given their own individual employability targets which are developed with their tutor. These targets will be regularly reviewed and updated by Trainees with their tutor and employer, and your tutor will visit you in the work place throughout your Traineeship. Where needed, trainees will undertake Functional Skills and/or GCSE exams.
Progression routes for trainees include an apprenticeship, employment, or further study in order to gain the necessary qualifications to pursue your career path.
