Course Overview

Do you want to work behind the scenes of the busy, creative, artistic, industry of TV, film and theatre? This programme will help you to develop the skills to work with production arts and theatre, TV and Film sector. You'll explore a range of professional techniques and practices in this highly competitive industry. You will be working in collaboration with Bath Theatre Academy supporting their productions within the backstage team. College and external fashion shows, music videos and photoshoots, and build a portfolio of evidence.

What topics are covered?

Technical skills such as make-up application skills, special effects make up, costume design, full body make-up for performers, production arts planning, fantasy hair design for performers, period hair and make-up for a production, creating prosthetics, and wig making skills.

Four GCSEs at grade 4 including English Language and Maths or successful completion of a Level 2 course.
You will need to purchase some materials / kit and a uniform at the start of your course. There may be some additional costs to cover course trips, these will be discussed when you start your year of study.
You will study in class, groups and individually and you will also be expected to work independently outside of College hours on projects and performances as part of work experience. You will work practically individually and in small groups. Assessment is continuous throughout the year and in many different forms focusing on input and ideas throughout the creative process.
You will be working in collaboration with Bath Theatre Academy supporting their productions within the backstage team. With a diverse range of teaching methods, workshops, masterclasses, collaborations, work experiences, self-directed work and mentoring. These will allow you to refine your skills and techniques to contribute to a final production outcome in a make-up role.
This course could lead you directly into a career within the makeup industry or gives you the qualification to progress onto HE via UCAS within the following areas: BA (Hons) Technical Theatre and Production BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance Private make-up training academies such as London school of make-up, BAMM or Delamar make-up academy.

Commitment to attend each session in our college uniform and purchase a full hairdressing kit (details of this at time of enrolment).

Willingness to perform services on members of the public in our Real Working Environment (RWE) client sessions in a professional manner.

This course will involve attending College one Saturday a month as part of the main programme.

60 hours mandatory work experience (WEX) placement, block week for Level 2 and Level 3 full-time courses.  Along with, 60 hours voluntary work experience will also need completing (more information can be found at time of enrolments).
