This course is predominantly for 16-19 year olds. Four GCSEs at grade G/1 to include English and Maths. An interest in the Catering & Hospitality sector as a job. The ability to work in a team.
There may be some additional costs to cover the trips you will go on, these will be discussed when you start your year of study. You may also need to purchase some recommended materials, equipment and a uniform at the start of your course.
This practical, work-related course will provide you with a detailed overview of working in the catering and hospitality industry, cooking and food and drink service. You will learn key cooking principles and practices and a broad range of theory topics. It is designed to meet the needs of learners who want to work in the industry and will provide the basic skills in varied areas before they need to focus on a specific career route.
You will combine classroom learning with practical sessions, and be assessed through practical exercises, short answer questions, and assignments. Units include customer service, food preparation, healthy eating and food safety.
Depending on how far you take your studies, you could leave the programme and gain employment at various levels in the industry. You can progress onto our Level 2 course in Professional Cookery or onto an apprenticeship as a front of house team member or production chef.
