This beginner-friendly program focuses on helping you develop confidence and independence in sewing in a supportive and relaxed environment.

You will begin by learning essential sewing machine skills and techniques applicable to both clothing and textile projects. With demonstrations and personalized guidance, you'll practice the skills necessary to develop your individual projects and explore your creative ideas. These skills will culminate in a "final piece" that allows you to refine your technical abilities.

  • Fastenings (zippers)
  • Understanding cutting techniques
  • Basic pattern drafting for fashion clothing

Please note: This course does not cover hand stitching or embroidery.

Please note: This course does not cover hand stitching or embroidery.

Suitable for beginners and anyone wishing to refresh their knowledge of using a sewing machine.
You will learn through demonstrations, practical tasks, and experimentation.
You will need to provide your own choice of fabrics, zips, buttons and threads.
Fabric scissors, notepad, and pen. In later weeks, you will need fabrics and fastenings - your tutor will advise.

Funding
If you are aged 19 or older, and are a UK national living in the UK or EEA for the last three years, you should be able to access government funding towards the cost of your course. Your course will either be free, or partially funded with a small fee to pay.

Free - if you are unemployed, looking for work and claiming benefits; Also, if you are employed & earning below 25k per year.

Partially Funded - if you earn 25,000 or more per year.

Not Funded - if you do not meet the residence requirements. You may be required to pay the full cost of your course, and will not be able to claim any government funding.
