Course Overview
The broad purpose of the occupation is to install new natural sustainable and ethically sourced stone or conserve, repair or replace existing natural stone in buildings and/or landscape projects where stonework is a key feature within the garden, including steps, walls, copings, water features, bespoke stone features and paved areas. Stonemasonry is a construction specialism and can be integral to both private and commercial projects and there are a number of specialist occupations within stonemasonry. For this standard, one of the following occupational options will be completed. Exterior Stone Fixers who install both solid masonry and hand-set stone cladding to the outside of structures. Ideal for those looking to go into the Leisure industry, this Level 2 apprenticeship is a great opportunity to gain hands on industry experience and act as a stepping stone to becoming a Construction Supervisor. This programme is ideal for school leavers right through to mature apprentices wanting to retrain.

Apprentices without level 1 English and Maths (GCSE 3/D) will need to achieve this level and take the test for level 2 English and Maths (GCSE 4/C) prior to taking the end-point assessment. (Please note those apprentices wanting to progress onto a Level 3 Apprenticeship programme must achieve the Level 2 in Maths and English before being able to do so.)
