You do not need to have any previous teaching experience. You need to be over 20 years old, have a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education and an English level of C2 on the CFR. If you do not have formal educational qualifications at the level indicated above or are aged between 18 and 20, we may still accept you if you can demonstrate that you would be likely to complete the course successfully. Please Note: You will need to successfully complete a language awareness task and an interview to be accepted on the course.
You will be asked to buy two reference books: one methodology book and one grammar book.
The CELTA course is an introductory course designed to enable participants to acquire essential subject knowledge and a range of practical skills and techniques for teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. It follows the University of Cambridge English approved CELTA syllabus. The content covers: Learners and teachers, and the teaching / learning context; Language analysis and awareness; Language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing; Lesson planning, resources and materials; Developing teaching skills and professionalism.
The course consists of a minimum of 120 contact hours and is very practical. Assessment is continuous and is integrated throughout the course. The two components of assessment are: Teachng Practice (6 hours of assessed Teaching Practice) and Written assignments (four assignments spread over the duration of the course).

With the CELTA qualification you will be able to find EFL and ESOL teaching jobs in the UK or overseas.
