Course Overview
Are you over 19 and wanting to gain the qualifications to enable you to study at university? The Access to Higher Education course is designed to prepare you for a higher education qualification. The programme will develop your skills and confidence to enable you to embark on a successful higher education career. Alongside your academic studies you will be supported by a personal tutor who will guide you through your UCAS application, monitor your well-being and prepare you for your progression to higher education.
Access to Higher Education is a QAA-recognised entry qualification for degree or diploma level studies at all universities in the UK, for a wide range of subjects.
The main subject areas studied within the Access to HE Science programme include: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Study Skills. There is a broad range of interesting units which include Biomolecules, Core Principles of Chemistry and Energy and the Environment.

The Access to HE Science course is a comprehensive Level 3 programme for learners wishing to progress to study a science related degree. The course will provide learners with an excellent grounding to progress onto higher education.
The Access course is a one-year full time study programme for learners aged 19+, who have an interest in science. The course is delivered at the main City Centre Campus over three days per week.
Learners who choose the science pathway will study a range of units in the following subjects:
- Biology
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Study Skills
- English
A grade C/4 or above for GCSE English Language and Maths.
A grade C/4 or above for GCSE Science.
We deliver the Ascentis Access to HE Diploma where you will study a range of units through the course of your programme. It is a full-time programme delivered face to face over three days per week at our City Centre Campus.
You will study a number of key subjects including: Biology, Chemistry, Physics Study Skills and English. You will complete a range of different assessments designed to help you prepare for university including group work, lab reports, essays, examinations and presentations.
It is important to understand the entry requirements for your desired chosen
degree programme at the start of the course. This will allow you to work with
your Tutor to map out target grades, enabling you to get the most out of your
