Welding Skills Bootcamps (23/24)
Course Overview
Coming into its second year, the Welding Skills Bootcamp is part of a scheme supported by the Department for Education's "Plan for Jobs" initiative.
Our Welding Skills Bootcamp Cohort for January 2024 is now full. At this point in time we are no longer accepting anymore applications. This page will update in the future should any more courses be planned.
This 12-week course is aimed at getting adults who are either unemployed or
are looking to upskill into more meaningful employment, giving those who run
their own businesses another skill to add to their offerings as well as working
with employers who want to upskill their existing
workforce.
Classes take place once a week at our Somer Valley
Campus in Radstock to ensure that they are accessible to learners who have other
commitments whether in life or work. It combines theory with practical
sessions taught by lecturers with a combination of over 30 years of
industry experience in our professional and fully equipped workshops.
MIG or MAG welding is taught with coded welding to a BS9606-1 testing standard. We also give learners the opportunity to gain a CSCS card as part of the course.
Learning covers the following as well as much more:
- understanding the hazards associated with welding
- demonstrating good workshop practice
- recognising welding symbols and joints and setting these up independently
- producing a T-fillet
- recognising welding defects
- evaluating own welds to BS9606-1
- identifying and changing consumable parts and purging
- how coding welding works in industry
- producing welds to a coding standard
- overhead, vertical and down-hand position welding
If you would like to learn these skills and gain support within career progression or a new career, get in touch with us now.
As well as working with students, Bath College is also looking to work with employers in Somerset, Bristol, B&NES and South Glos who have welding requirements within their own business.
Whether you are looking to upskill your existing workforce or yourself, employ new staff either currently or in the future, or would be interested in talking to our learners about your company and the practical side of working within welding, we would love to hear from you.
Success Story
Here is what some of our previous students say about the course:
I found the boot camp triggered a previously dormant enthusiastic hunger to learn, in excellent facilities, led by a highly approachable teacher keen to share his industry expertise.
The Skills Bootcamp helped me regain skills and established me in the jobs market, I'm sure of its long-term usefulness.
Amazingly structured and highly enjoyable.
