You will be supplied with a full tool kit from Bath College which you can utilise when you are on your course
You will be supported by an industry professional to develop a range of skills working on your own project As well as learning the basic techniques of frame repair and restoration, you will also learn how to add springs to your item on this more advanced course.
Intermediate. You will have gained a good level of competency, via the beginner's project, or externally, to progress to a more complex project with additional methods and skills.
Please bring in a piece of furniture of your choice to upholster. All tools related to upholstery will be available for use in the studio/class. Listed below are essential items that should be brought for personal use. This are items which are not transferable for hygiene reasons. Safety glasses, this is required to protect from tacks and staples hitting the eyes. Face Masks for DIY work, for will be required when stripping down a frame for instance and various processes, which will be advised. Gloves are advised in case of allergies or skin with may find some materials an irritant, due to FR treatment or otherwise. For example, coir stuffing (taken from the coconut shell) is used which is treated for FR and may cause irritation in some cases. An apron is advised.
Please provide your own top cover fabric and specialist finishes such as braids or covered buttons or piping.
