Course Overview
The BTEC Level 3 Sports Coaching and Development qualification is an industry endorsed and accredited course. The course enables learners to develop underpinning knowledge and technical skills, and the ability to use their knowledge and skills to positively impact sports development programmes, as well as gain experience as an assistant coach. The qualification is endorsed by CIMSPA, which has confirmed that the qualification is fully mapped to professional standards of Assistant Coach and Safeguarding and Protecting Children. This is seen through the delivery of units such as Developing Coaching Skills, Applied Coaching Skills and Careers in Sport. The CIMSPAs endorsement of this qualification allows learners to apply for CIMSPA membership after successfully completing this programme, this is recognised by employers as enabling learners to enter employment. According to the EMSI, by 2022 the number of those working within the sports profession is expected to grow by 10%, making it an exciting and expanding sector to join. This programme is intended for those looking to progress into a career in sport coaching or participation and enjoy a blend of both theoretical and practical input. It will also provide a detailed overview of the sport industry, preparing you for progression onto higher education or employment. The Bath City Football Academy programme is designed to offer young adults the opportunity to gain an academic qualification alongside developing as a footballer under the guidance of highly experienced UEFA B licence qualified coaches. The programme offers a range of pathways for those with passion and interest, to apply themselves whilst playing and learning. The course offers a range of exit routes including entry into university, scholarships, recruitment from professional clubs and full-time job placements.

Students require 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include English and Maths.
There is an academy fee of 150 per academic year that students pay on enrolment, this is a contribution towards training kit, physio access, facilities and transport to training and games.
The aim of this course is to develop a learners knowledge and skills in a range of areas including the theoretical and practical elements of sports. Upon completion of our sports course, progression routes include employment opportunities, apprenticeships and Higher Education. Alongside the main qualification, we also focus on developing personal skills and employability opportunities in a rich and diverse experience.
Units will be assessed in a variety of methods including practical, group work and exams to ensure all students needs are covered. This also allow for further development of core skills, and soft skills, required within the workplace, as well as replicating that of assessments at higher education. The Football Academy typically consists of two training sessions, one Strength and Conditioning session and an opportunity to compete in both the English College League and the South West Counties league. All football academy students will also have access to Physiotherapy.
With endorsement of the qualification by CIMPSA, Sports Coaching and Development Level 3 will allow learners to progress into employment, in particular roles with sports coaching, sports development or sports officiating. It will also provide a detailed overview of the sport industry, preparing you for progression onto higher education such as the Foundation Degree in Sport, Coaching and Exercise Science which is run by the college in partnership with University of Gloucestershire.
